About Nishijin Weaving
Nishijin weaving is silk fabric produced in the Nishijin district of Kyoto. Beginning with the Heian capital's establishment in 794, weavers returned to Nishijin after the Onin War (1467) to revive the industry. Using Jacquard looms and pre-dyed threads for complex patterns combined with gold, silver, and foil threads, it remains the premium brand for obi sashes and kimono fabrics.
