About Ozu Washi (Ozu Handmade Paper)
Ozu Washi is handmade Japanese paper produced in Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture. Paper-making utilizing the clear waters of the Hijikawa River has continued since the Muromachi period, known as strong, white, and beautiful paper with kozo (paper mulberry) as the main raw material. Developed as a paper production area in Iyo Province (present Ehime Prefecture), used for calligraphy, printmaking, and craft applications. The clear water of the Hijikawa and the warm climate of Shikoku are ideal for cultivating high-quality kozo and paper production, with craftspeople continuing the traditional hand-papermaking technique.
