About Echizen Washi Paper
Echizen Washi is handmade Japanese paper from Imadate district, Echizen City, Fukui. With approximately 1,500 years of history, it's known for Okamodoki Shrine dedicated to the 'God of Paper'—Japan's only paper shrine. It leads domestic handmade paper production and also makes high-quality machine-made paper for banknotes, securities, and diplomatic documents. Inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2014 as 'Washi.'
