About Sekishu Banshi Paper
Sekishu Banshi is handmade Japanese paper from Misumi district, Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture. With a history said to have begun in the 7th century, it is characterized by 100% kozo (paper mulberry) raw material. Durable and highly preservation-resistant, it has been widely used for certificates, calligraphy, and shoji screens. Inscribed individually on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2009 (later merged with Echizen Washi and Mino Washi).
