About Hida Washi (Hida Handmade Paper)
Hida Washi is handmade Japanese paper produced in Hida City (former Yoshiki District), Gifu Prefecture. The mountain area's clear streams surrounded by the Hida mountain range and cold climate create an environment suitable for kozo cultivation and paper production. Paper made using Hida's clean snowmelt water is white and durable, deeply rooted in the region as a material for calligraphy, crafts, and folk implements. Also used as raw material for Hida folk crafts, it conveys the traditional paper culture supporting the cultural sphere of Hida-Takayama.
