About Nishinouchi Washi (Nishinouchi Handmade Paper)
Nishinouchi Washi is handmade Japanese paper produced in Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Made from 100% kozo using the clear waters of the Nakagawa River system, it is known for being 'strong and beautiful.' Highly regarded for calligraphy, printmaking, mounting, and restoration work, its toughness makes it suitable for cultural property restoration. Said to have been used as paper for the Edo Shogunate, it is a prestigious paper, with a small number of craftspeople today continuing to protect the traditional hand-papermaking technique.
