About Uchiyama Washi Paper

Uchiyama Washi is handmade Japanese paper from Iiyama City (former Uchiyama district), Nagano Prefecture. With a history from the Muromachi period, it features handmade paper using natural water from Shinano's cold region with kozo as the main material. Winter papermaking (cold-season papermaking) utilizing the snowy region climate gives the paper its characteristic strength and whiteness. Used for shoji screens, calligraphy, and craft paper.
