About Mikawachi Ware
Mikawachi ware is a fine white porcelain produced in the Mikawachi area of Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Descended from Korean potters brought over in 1598, it served as the official kiln of the Hirado Domain in the Edo period. It is best known for its "Karako-e" motif depicting Chinese-style children at play, combined with luminous white porcelain.
