About Ojiya Tsumugi
Ojiya tsumugi is a silk tsumugi textile produced in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture. Woven from the mid-Edo period in the same production area as Ojiya chijimi and Echigo jofu, it features a rustic texture using tsumugi thread drawn from silk wadding. Hand-weaving techniques refined through the harsh winters of snowy Echigo continue to be passed down today. Characterized by a high-quality texture and distinctive luster, it has earned national recognition as a kimono fabric.
