About Tokamachi Kasuri

Tokamachi kasuri is a silk kasuri (ikat) textile produced in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture. With traditions of silk production in the snow country dating to the mid-Edo period, it features intricate kasuri patterns and distinctive dyeing techniques. Located in the center of Echigo textile culture alongside the neighboring production areas of Ojiya chijimi and Echigo jofu, it currently produces diverse products including kimono fabric, obi, and interior textiles.
