About Tsuboya Ware
Tsuboya ware is pottery produced in the Tsuboya district of Naha City, Okinawa. Established in 1682 when King Sho Tei of the Ryukyu Kingdom consolidated kilns from around the area. There are two types: 'Arayachi' (unglazed) and 'Joyachi' (glazed). Famous for Shisa lion-dogs and Dachijin (flat flasks), the 'Yachimun Street' in Naha is a tourist spot for craft enthusiasts.
