About Karatsu Ware

Karatsu ware is pottery produced in parts of Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures. Developed from around the 16th century using techniques brought by Korean potters, it is renowned as a top tea ceramics production area—ranked third in the saying 'First Raku, Second Hagi, Third Karatsu.' Various styles including E-Karatsu (painted), Chosen-Karatsu, and Madara-Karatsu were deeply beloved by tea masters such as Sen no Rikyu.
