About Iwami Ware
Iwami Ware is a ceramic produced mainly in Goto City, Shimane Prefecture, developing from the late Edo to Meiji period as a producer of large jars, pots, and bowls. Using high-quality clay from the Iwami region and wood-fired kiln techniques, it is known for its rustic yet powerful character. Large storage jars called 'Iwami-gama' were distributed nationwide for salt, miso, and soy sauce preservation. Today it also produces everyday tableware and plant pots, beloved for its natural clay texture and functional beauty.
