About Murayama Oshima Tsumugi
Murayama oshima tsumugi is a silk textile produced around Musashimurayama City and Higashiyamato City in Tokyo. Beginning in the late Edo period, it developed independently by incorporating techniques from Amami Oshima tsumugi. Characterized by "mengasuri" (cotton warp kasuri), combining cotton and silk threads, it is known as a durable and practical kimono fabric. It is a Tokyo-produced tsumugi designated as a nationally recognized traditional craft.
