About Tama Ori
Tama ori is a silk textile produced mainly in Hachioji City, Tokyo. Developed against the backdrop of Hachioji's silk industry dating to the early Edo period, it is also called "Hachioji textiles." It encompasses diverse techniques including omeshi crepe, fuutsuu weaving, and tsumugi, and is known as a prestigious kimono fabric and obi. Though mechanization advanced after the Meiji era, high-quality hand-woven products continue to be produced.
