About Kiryu Ori
Kiryu ori is a silk textile produced in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture. Records of silk being presented to the Imperial court date to the Nara period, earning it the description "Nishijin of the West, Kiryu of the East" as the largest silk textile production area in eastern Japan. It produces diverse products including obi, kimono fabric, and shawls, and in recent years has incorporated advanced materials such as polyester while preserving traditional patterns and techniques.
