About Ushikubi Tsumugi
Ushikubi Tsumugi is silk fabric from the Shiramine district (formerly Shiramine and Ushikubi villages), Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Also called 'kuginuki-tsumugi' (nail-pulling tsumugi) for its exceptional strength—the unique method uses 'tama-mayu' (double cocoons from two silkworms). Considered one of Japan's three great tsumugi (alongside Yuki and Oshima), it features a lustrous sheen and durability. Craftsmen continue the tradition in the harsh environment of the Hakusan foothills.
