About Tango Chirimen Crepe
Tango Chirimen is silk crepe fabric produced in the northern Kyoto Tango region (Kyotango City, Miyazu City, etc.). Said to have started in 1720 when silk merchant Kinutani Saheiji of Mineyama domain brought back techniques from Kyoto. Accounting for approximately 60% of domestic silk chirimen production, it is Japan's largest silk chirimen area, widely used as material for Kyoto's dyeing and kimono including yuzen, komon, and furisode.
