About Shinshu Tsumugi
Shinshu tsumugi is a collective term for silk tsumugi textiles produced across Nagano Prefecture (including Matsumoto, Ueda, and Iida). Developed in Shinshu, where sericulture has flourished since the Edo period, it features natural color tones from plant dyeing and a simple, rustic texture. It includes area-specific brands such as Ueda tsumugi, Iida tsumugi, and Matsumoto tsumugi, and has a national reputation as a center of plant dyeing and hand weaving.
