About Hon-Shiozawa
Hon-Shiozawa is a silk crinkle textile produced in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. Also called 'Omeshi chijimi,' it creates a distinctive textured surface (shibori) by using tightly twisted threads. Designated by the national government as a traditional craft separate from Shiozawa tsumugi, this high-end silk textile is completed by weaving fine raw silk with strong twists, then scouring and hot-water kneading to produce a finely textured, elegant crinkled cloth. It is prized as a high-end kimono fabric suitable year-round, not only in summer.
