About Yaeyama Jofu
Yaeyama jofu is a linen fabric woven on Ishigaki Island and Taketomi Island in Okinawa Prefecture. Alongside Miyako jofu, it is one of Okinawa's premium linen textiles, woven from hand-spun ramie on a hand loom. It features kasuri (ikat) patterns, many depicting the natural beauty of the Yaeyama Islands such as star sand and sea urchins. Despite a serious shortage of successors, preservation and transmission continue for this precious traditional textile.
