About Awa Shijira Weaving
Awa shijira ori is a cotton textile produced in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. A textile born in Tokushima during the Meiji period, it is characterized by a unique technique of weaving with tightly twisted threads to create surface texture (shibori). This texture reduces contact area with the skin, making it prized as summer kimono and yukata fabric for its cool sensation. Predominantly striped with a refreshing color scheme based on indigo blue, it is known as a representative traditional textile of Tokushima.
